If you missed the Open Enrollment Period, there are two ways you can get coverage: 1) through the Special Enrollment Period or 2) if you are not eligible for the Special Enrollment Period, getting a Non-Government Plan.
If you have a Qualifying Life Event, or certain life changes, you will be eligible for the Special Enrollment Period. This eligibility is the only way you can get a Government Plan outside of Open Enrollment.

If you missed Open Enrollment and do not have a Qualifying Life Event, it is recommended that you enroll in a Non-Government Plan. Non-Government Plans, often referred to as “Private Insurance” or “Short Term Plans,” are meant to provide you with health coverage until the next Open Enrollment.
